Jack Wilshere has urged patience with Ali Al-Hamadi’s comeback, insisting the striker is progressing well but must not be rushed back into action.
The striker has increased his training load in recent weeks, and his social media post this week raised hopes that Hatters fans will get to see their summer signing in action soon.
But the frontman won’t be available for tomorrow’s League One trip to Plymouth and Wilshere says lessons have been learned from previous setbacks.
The 23-year-old arrived injured from Ipswich on loan on the summer transfer deadline day and after recovering from the calf issue to make his Luton debut off the bench in October he went on international with Iraq where he scored but got injured again, revealing on his X account in November that he’d be out for another “few months”.
Wilshere said: “He’s trained more this week. He’s stepped up. He’s been in every session we’ve done.
“We want to see him, we want to see him on the pitch, but he’s been through this process before of coming back and then obviously had a hugely disappointing moment where he got injured.”
The Luton boss stressed the importance of managing expectations with Al-Hamadi saying: “My message to him is not to rush his last little bit. The medical team have done a top job this time, dripping him into training and picking the moments where he can step out and focus on his rehab.
“He gives you something different to all the nines that we’ve got. He’s aggressive, wants to run behind a little bit more.
“You can literally see every single day he looks a little bit sharper, his touch a little bit cleaner. Let’s just wait a little bit with him.”
