More than 83,000 square metres of Luton’s roads are due to be resurfaced or treated over the coming weeks as part of a £7.2million programme of highway works.
The council is working with highways maintenance contractor VolkerHighways to target roads most in need of attention, with the work designed to improve road condition, extend the life of the network and reduce the need for more extensive repairs in future.
A further 83,280 square metres across 31 roads is scheduled to be resurfaced or treated, with work continuing through October and into early November.
The programme follows work already completed across Luton this year.
Councillor Javeria Hussain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Sustainable Development, said: “Our road network plays a vital role in keeping Luton moving. We’re dedicated to investing in our roads to help ensure residents can travel safely and reliably across the town.
“We’ve already completed a significant amount of work across Luton this year, with further treatments planned over the coming weeks. We know roadworks can cause some disruption while they are taking place, and we thank residents and road users for their patience.”
Where required, diversion routes will be put in place and residents are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys while work takes place.
The council has published the full programme of resurfacing and surface treatment works, including roads that have already been completed and those still due to be treated.
