Singer-songwriter James Blunt has filmed promotional videos for his new album at Luton Airport, with staff getting the chance to appear alongside the star.

The singer chose the airport as the backdrop for a series of videos to promote ‘Airplane Mode‘, which is released today (Friday, November 6).

Members of the airport’s guest experience and security teams were invited to take starring roles in the filming, giving colleagues a taste of life in front of the camera alongside the musician, who was a finalist on Celebrity Traitors.

The airport joked that, unlike Blunt’s experience in the Scottish Highlands during the BBC reality show, there was no betrayal during the shoot, with staff proving to be willing ‘faithfuls’.

Clare Armstrong, head of guest experience at London Luton Airport, said: “We were delighted that James chose London Luton Airport as the backdrop to promote his new album.

“It was fantastic to see colleagues from across the airport being such good sports and they did a wonderful job of showcasing the simple and friendly passenger experience we look to deliver every day. We all wish James every success with the new album.”

Blunt said: “The London Luton Airport team was kind enough to let me in to film some wonderful promotional material for my new album and we were looked after brilliantly. The energy and enthusiasm of both staff and passengers really added to the fun and I think we’ve created something that will make people smile.

“The album’s title, ‘Airplane Mode’, nods to the importance of blocking out the constant noise of outside connections and refocusing on what matters. I hope it’s on the playlist of millions of LLA passengers this year!”

The collaboration is the latest in a series of initiatives by the airport aimed at encouraging passengers to take a break from their digital devices and enjoy a more relaxed start to their holidays.

Over the summer, the airport worked with Luton-based children’s author, illustrator and comedian Olaf Falafel on 26 Minutes to Save Summer, a comic-style book designed to encourage young people to rediscover reading for pleasure. Almost 1,500 copies were distributed to families travelling through the airport.

The airport also partnered with dermatologist Dr Nora Jaafar to open a pop-up ‘Glow Up Gate’, offering passengers free pre-flight facials, while its annual LLA Resort summer programme featured local musicians, singers and DJs performing for travellers in the terminal.
