Adebayo hails Lockyer as Wales ace set to leave hospital today

Tom Lockyer led Luton out at Wembley but collapsed and has his Championship play-off final cut short

Elijah Adebayo says Luton had “added incentive” to win the Championship play-off final after Tom Lockyer collapsed at Wembley and that he hopes to see the Welshman soon when he is released from hospital today.

The player of the season has been undergoing a series of tests at the Cavendish Clinic in London since being stretchered off early on at Wembley on Saturday.

The news came through yesterday that Lockyer will return home later.

Fears were eased immediately after the Championship showpiece when Lockyer’s dad posted a photo on social media of his son celebrating Town’s promotion to the Premier League from his hospital bed, surrounded by family.

A statement by Luton Town yesterday, said: ‘The Welsh international has been a frustrated patient ever since, but has completed all the necessary medical tests and observations to be allowed home for a period of rest before the start of pre-season training, which he will be fit to take part in.’

The Hatters added: ‘We can’t wait to see you back home at the Kenny with that trophy in your hands, Locks!’

The message left fans hoping that also means the defender, who is thought to be out of contract this summer, will be staying at the club.’

And Adebayo hailed his team-mate for a stellar season which has included personal and club accolades.

“The name Tom Lockyer speaks for itself,” said the striker.

“Everyone knows what Locks has done for this club this season, regardless of if didn’t play the first five games. He’s done this club proud.

“It was an added incentive for us, (to win promotion) for Locks. At the same time, if you didn’t have a reason to do it before, the reason was there.

“I’m happy that he’s healthy. He is good, his family are with him and we hope to see him soon.”
