London Luton Airport (LLA) is heading to Park Lane after being chosen for one of the top spots on the board of the new MONOPOLY: Luton Edition game that launches today.
Following an announcement last year that Luton was getting its own official version of the world’s most popular family board game, the public were invited to suggest the town’s key landmarks and organisations to be featured in the game.
As well as the airport, the game features more than 30 of Luton’s most loved landmarks from the Hat Factory to Luton Town Hall and Kenilworth Road, the home of Luton Town FC.
London Luton Airport and Luton Rising, the Luton Council-owned company that owns the airport, co-hosted the launch event at the LLA terminal and the Luton DART station alongside Winning Moves UK, the makers of the MONOPOLY: Luton Edition board game, under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.
Mayor of Luton, Cllr Mohammed Yaqub Hanif, said: “We are really excited that the Luton version of MONOPOLY has come to life. This was a really great opportunity for people to share their ideas about Luton locations that should be included as part of this iconic game.
“It’s great to see well-loved locations on the board along with local businesses, and charities. The board showcases so many positives on offer with our rich and varied heritage, transport links, green spaces and, of course, our very well-known football ground!”
Oli Jaycock, Director of Corporate Affairs at London Luton Airport, said: “It’s fantastic news that the town of Luton is being recognised with its own version of Monopoly. This special edition will be a celebration of the town and its heritage and, as a proud member of the local community for over 85 years, London Luton Airport is delighted to have been chosen by local people to feature on one of the board’s most prestigious spaces as one of the town’s key landmarks.”
John Keen-Tomlinson, Custom Games Executive of Winning Moves UK – makers of this unique board – said: “The response from the public has been overwhelming. A very big thank you to everyone who sent in nominations and congratulations to everyone featuring in the game.”
