Harrison Ashby says it took just one conversation with Jack Wilshere to convince him that Luton Town was the right place to continue his development.
The 24-year-old has joined the Hatters on a season-long loan from Newcastle United, becoming the club’s third signing of the summer.
Ashby, who played alongside Wilshere during the early stages of his career at West Ham United, admitted the move came together quickly.
“It was rather quick in the making,” he told the club’s website.
“I’m quite used to going out on loan at the end of the window, so it’s nice getting something in early.
“I’ll be with the lads now for a full pre-season, which will help towards me getting to know everyone and helping the club.”
The defender revealed it was his first conversation with the Hatters boss that convinced him to make the move to Kenilworth Road.
“My first chat with Jack really [sold the move to me],” he said.
“Being with him at West Ham, it was a bit of a little reunion for us, and after five minutes I said to my agent, ‘Yes, I want to be here’. It wasn’t really that hard a decision.
“The main thing is that he knows what kind of character I am already, and he knows what kind of player I am as well. So I think straightaway the philosophy matches my playing style, which is perfect for me, and I think I can slot into the team and help them straightaway.”
Ashby arrives after loan spells with Swansea City, QPR and Bradford City, where he helped the Bantams reach the League One play-offs last season.
Now he is hoping to play his part in helping Luton challenge for promotion.
“Luton is a massive club and always has been,” he said.
“It’s a joy to get it over the line now. I’m hoping to help the team get up where we need to be.”
