Aston Villa loan star Steer set for scan as Jones hails ‘outstanding’ Isted’s Chelsea display

Jed Steer will undergo a scan but is expected to have injured his Achilles heel and that could mean that Harry Isted features against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The on-loan Aston Villa keeper pulled up in the 14th minute of last night’s 3-2 FA Cup fifth round defeat to Chelsea. In visible distress, he was punching the ground and was then stretchered off.

With James Shea not in the squad due to a tight hamstring, that meant Isted was thrown into action for his FA Cup debut and his first senior Luton appearance of any kind since a 2018 Checkatrade Trophy game.

Manager Nathan Jones said: “He got injured, Jed. We’ll have to scan it. It’s an Achilles injury. He knew straight away. The extraordinary thing is that we had a goalkeeper that came on, he’s had three senior games and was absolutely outstanding. He didn’t look out of place, which is very pleasing for us.

“I thought he was outstanding. It can go either one of two ways; you can either crumble or you can embrace it. He really embraced it.

“I don’t think he had too much time to get nervous. He went from being in the comfort zone to being right in the firing line, but he was excellent.

“That’s the group we have here, they train hard, they graft, so that whenever they’re called upon, they respond.”

Isted did with a string of fine saves, including one from £97.5million man Romelu Lukaku, which helped the Hatters to reach half time 2-1 to the good and dreaming of a cup giant-killing.

But attentions will quickly to turn to Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough for a play-off push six-pointer, and that means Isted could make his league bow for the club.

Asked if the 24-year-old is ready, Jones said: “He’ll have to be, the window’s shut. So, regardless of what it is, unless I bring Kev Dearden (goalkeeping coach) out of retirement, he’ll be the only one. Yeah, he’s shown enough.”

  2. certainly like your web-site however you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very bothersome to tell the reality however I will certainly come again again.

  3. Excellent read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing some research on that. And he actually bought me lunch since I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!
