BREAKING: Harry Cornick joins Bristol City

Harry Cornick has transferred to Bristol City on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day after reportedly rejecting interest from Swansea City.

It ends a five-and-a-half-year spell at Luton for the 27-year-old, who joined them in the summer of 2017 when the club were in League Two.

He was part of Town’s back-to-back promotion-winning side that rose to the Championship and he leaves having made 235 appearances in all competitions, scoring 38 times.

The Robins made the forward a target after the £9million sale of Antoine Semenyo to Bournemouth.

Speaking before the deal was confirmed and after Luton’s 1-0 Championship win over Cardiff – which moved them fourth in the league – Hatters boss Rob Edwards said that Cornick had been given permission to talk with the Robins.

The manager added: “He’s been a fantastic servant for this club. He’s got an opportunity to look after himself and his family and everything, and in the end he expressed a real interest and desire to go and speak.

“What’s key to say is that we’re working on things to make sure we come out of this window in a strong position.”

Once Cornick’s move was confirmed, Luton announced they’d signed Peterborough United striker Joe Taylor.

Cornick told Bristol City’s website: “I’m excited to get going. It’s been a whirlwind few days and the last 24 hours has been a bit crazy – I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a great training facility – there is no excuse for this club not to kick on. I hope to bring a bit of enjoyment and fun – I want to get the fans out of their seats, score a few goals and help take this club to where it should be.”

City signed former Hatters defender Kal Naismith in the summer and Cornick said of his new club: “I think there is a great project here. The ambition of the club aligns with my ambitions and obviously I spoke to Kal Naismith quite a bit since he’s been here and he’s sold it to me really.

“He’s told me a lot about the club and the city in general – it excited me and I can’t wait to get going.

“It’s always helpful when you know someone and they can show you around but in the short time I have been here, everyone has been super nice and friendly. It seems like a great place to be.”

  1. They all seem to want to work for ‘the best manager in the league’.
Brizzle team currently in 17th. The squad must have some real duff players if even the best manager can only get them this far!!!

  2. Good luck Harry! Thanks a load formal you’ve done. Fair play in taking a pay rise too. Short career and all that.

I don’t think we’ve left the window in a stronger position than we started though. Cornick was the “different” attacker. We looked east to defend against in yet another lacklustre home performance last night. Taylor won’t be ready this season and Muskwe won’t ever be ready. Morris is out of sorts, Woodrow gets played out of position and therefore doesn’t contribute as much and I bet gets frustrated. If either of them or Adebayo gets injured we’re now in trouble.

Ah well, trust the process etc etc.

But the love of whatever, please Rob, take Cornick’s great words about wanting to bring fun to the Bristol city fans. That’s what we desperately need at home. It’s weird to be moaning about being 4th. But our home performances have been the most boring we’ve had in about 20 years (mainly Nathan’s fault but Rob’s haven’t been much better to date). Bring that joy to us!
