Luton have signed striker Joe Taylor from League One side Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee, with a view club legend Mick Harford explaining why they’ve tracked the 20-year-old for a long time.

The youngster has made 15 appearances in all competition for Posh and joins just before the January transfer window shut, with established forward Harry Cornick departing for Championship Bristol City for an undisclosed fee

Chief Recruitment Officer Harford said: “We have tracked Joe for a long period of time, and have got many reports on him. We’ve seen him play in many various types of game, at training grounds and at the main stadium, and he always seems to be on the shoulder of the last defender, looking for that ball over the top to run in behind.

“He’s got good pace and we believe he’s a real threat who will always create chances for himself. He needs a little bit of work and time, but we believe we can develop him into a top striker here.”

Hatters Manager Rob Edwards said: “Joe’s an exciting young player and someone that the recruitment team here have been tracking for a while. He’s very quick, he gets chances and we really like the look of him.

“He’s still inexperienced at the moment, but we feel he will be a really good asset for the club going forward, someone we are looking forward to getting in the building and working with.”

Taylor joined Peterborough in November 2021 from National League side King’s Lynn Town, having made just one appearance for the Linnets. But he also netted 21 times in 13 loan appearances for Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Wroxham.

As part of Posh’s Under-23 squad, he scored a hat-trick in a Premier League Cup quarter-final victory against Charlton Athletic last year and then, four days later, made his first-team and Championship debut as a substitute against AFC Bournemouth.

In September 2022, Taylor made his debut for Wales U21s in a 2-0 defeat against Austria.
