Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu has signed a new Luton contract to put him closer to another entry in football’s history books.

Now in his 11th season for the Hatters, he is already the only player ever to win promotions to go from the non-league to the Premier League with the same club.

And when he first steps over the white line for a top-flight game – and his 365th for the club – the midfielder will become the first player to play in all five divisions for the same side, potentially as soon as the first game of the campaign at Brighton and Hove Albion on August 12.

Mpanzu will join up with the squad which began pre-season last week. He told the club’s website: “It’s great to be back and I’m ready to get to work. Hopefully, it’s going to be a great new season for us in the Premier League.

“I’ve got to play the Brighton game to make that history first, but once I get through pre-season it should be all good. We are looking to fight and stay in this league, I cannot wait to contribute to that this season.

“I’ve been at the club for so long, so to get it sorted and get it signed is all good. I’m so happy and looking forward to getting back out there at Kenilworth Road in front of the fans.”
