Luton Town have made Wycombe Wanderers attacker Fred Onyedinma their first signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee and was unveiled to season ticket holders this afternoon with his signing made possible by the ‘Transfer Club’ fund raised by supporters who have paid the full amount for their 2021-22 season ticket, donating the equivalent of the 40 per cent credit they were entitled to.

Onyedinma rose through the ranks at Millwall, making his debut at 17 and going on to play 151 times for the Lions. After two loan spells at Adams Park he signed for the Chairboys two years ago, helping them into the Championship for the first time in their history.

But after their relegation straight back to the second tier, Town have swooped, having tried to sign him at the turn of the year.

Nathan Jones said: “We’ve tracked Fred for a while as we’ve come up against him regularly in recent years, and he’s always impressed.

“We tried to get him in January and we’ve had to be patient, but we are delighted to bring him in now.

“He’s still young for someone with so much experience, very athletic and he gives us real attacking options.

“We are looking forward to working with Fred and I’d like to personally thank all of the season ticket holders who have contributed towards his transfer with your donations.

“As with everyone we sign, Fred is someone who we feel can improve us, and one who is hungry to develop in our environment and move forward with us.”

  5. Fred is hopefully a really good signing. Played so many more games than someone like Izzy Brown yet same age. Clearly has a desire to keep getting better and didn’t let the regular knock backs from Millwall put him off proving he was a Championship level footballer. Here’s to a successful career with us, and hopefully netting the winner at the New Den while he’s about it!
