‘Don’t write us off just yet’ in survival scrap, says Hylton

‘Don’t write us off just yet’ – that is the rallying cry from Danny Hylton as the Hatters hope to build on a midweek win and start clawing their way to Championship safety.

Town travel to Middlesbrough this afternoon, aiming to chip away at the seven-point gap between them and safety.

The 1-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday saw Luton lift themselves off the foot of the table and that’s injecting some hope that the unlikeliest of great escapes could be achievable.

Hylton said: “Until it’s mathematically impossible we’ll never ever stop believing. We’ve got a massive game against Middlesbrough. You go there, win that and all of a sudden, the table looks so much different.

“We believe and we’ll never stop believing and with this group of players, don’t write us off just yet.”

Last season, as Town secured promotion from League One, Hylton insisted that the club weren’t going to the Championship to make up the numbers.

“I still believe that,” said Hylton after finally making his Championship debut in midweek with a 22-minute cameo, 11 months on from suffering a knee injury.

“Up to this point we’re probably in a position we wouldn’t have wanted to be in. I still believe that we’re better than the position we’re in, there’s no doubt about that.

“We’ll keep believing and keep giving everything so that we’re in this league come the May 2.”

Town’s away form is a major reason they find themselves in a relegation dogfight and they will rock up at the Riverside Stadium today on the back of an 11-game league losing run on the road.

“It’s got to turn,” said Hylton, adding: “I’m sure if we go there and put in a performance like that (against Sheffield Wednesday) and we work as hard as we did, it’s going to be tough for a team to beat us.

“I’m sure we’ll go there full of beans after a win, so it’s a game we’re all looking forward to.”
