A deal for Japanese international right back Daiki Hashioka has not been agreed yet, according to Luton manager Rob Edwards, amid reports of the right back undergoing a medical as part of a potential €2million three-and-a-half year move from Belgian club Sint-Truid.

Town are believed to be in the box seat for the 24-year-old, who has also be interesting Championship Leeds United this transfer window and a move to the Hatters looks likely as record signing Ryan Giles is undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed move to Hull City.

Asked if Town are interested in Hashioko, Edwards said: “He’s a player that we like. At the moment, because nothing’s agreed or done yet and I want to be able to respect the whole process, so there’s nothing to say more at the moment, but he’s a player that we like and there is an interest there.”

Asked what qualities the defender has, the manager said: “I’ll talk about that if we are able to it.”

Giles, who arrived in the summer for around £5million from Wolverhampton Wanderers – Luton’s biggest ever transfer fee – was not in the squad for Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup fourth round win at Everton, with a switch to Hull moving closer.

“He’s getting closer,” said Edwards, adding: “He’s up there having some talks now, so I think that one’s inching its way closer.

“With Gilo, (he’s) a fantastic person and I think it’s just the right one for him as well as the football club. If it does go through and it happens then of course we wish him well.”
