Rob Edwards believes there will be an “appetite” and “hunger” to start the new season strongly after Luton’s relegation from the Premier League.
The Hatters will return for pre-season training next week, after the fixtures for the new Championship season are released on Wednesday.
With strong links that Ross Barkley has agreed a deal to join Aston Villa, and rumoured interest in Town stars Elijah Adebayo, Alfie Doughty, Teden Mengi and Gabriel Osho, it remains to be seen who will still be a Hatter when they kick-off their second tier campaign in August.
But Luton have already secured the long-term services of boss Edwards after he penned a new four-year deal up to 2028, and he will try to mastermind Town’s immediate return to the top flight where they won many admirers, despite relegation.
The 41-year-old said: “We’re developing, we’re still getting better, we’ve learnt a hell of a lot. We want to put what we’ve learned, especially in the last 12 months, into practice next season.
“The fixtures will come out next week, just before we’re back in, we’ll see the boys and we’ll get straight to work.
“I think there will be a real appetite, a real hunger to put a lot of the stuff that we’ve learnt, a lot of the stuff we’re trying to do, into practice straight away.
“We’re starting from a better place than we were last pre-season, actually, because of the recruitment we’ve done, and that really excites me.”
Though all three promoted team were relegation back to the Championship, Luton finished highest above Burnley and Sheffield United and are one of the favourite to bounce back at the first attempt.
On how he’ll approach the new season, Edwards told the club’s website: “I want it to be exciting football and I think that’s what we’ve shown. I want us to be a really attacking team, a brave team and exciting to watch.
“I want the fans to come and watch us, and know they’re going to see a team that has given absolutely everything.
“But a team that’s going to attack and win games of football. We didn’t win loads last year. We tried to, but we went into every game believing that we could and that’s going to be our way again next year.”
