Rumoured Fulham interest in James Bree would reflect well on the Luton defender and the football club, but boss Rob Edwards has not heard of any interest in what has been a “quiet” transfer window so far.
The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for Town in the Championship this term and in previous transfer windows had been linked with West Bromwich Albion.
At the weekend it was reported that Bree is now a target for Premier League Fulham, but Hatters boss Edwards said: “I’ve not heard anything on it at the moment, again, Bree is a good player, and nothing would surprise me, he’s a very, very good player, we’re thankful that we’ve got him here, but at the moment, it’s quiet on that, so I couldn’t comment any further.”
Bree has also since been linked with Southampton in what would be a link-up with former Town boss Nathan Jones, who left Luton to join the Premier League basement boys in November.
Asked what top-flight transfer interest, rumours or otherwise, says about Luton, the manager said: “If there’s truth in it, it reflects well on the individual, first and foremost. We’ve got some good players.
“There’s been some good work done at this football club. We’ve got a great recruitment department. A big part of our model and how we do things is bringing players in from the league below, or whatever it might be, or for free, and we can work hard with them, polish them up and, sometimes, they might go for a bit more money, or go above.
“That’s credit to the football club, as well as the individual that we’re talking about as well.
“I know we’re in January and there’ll be lots more of these conversations to come but, at the moment, as far as we’re concerned, it’s still quite quiet.”
Asked if any transfers were imminent, in or out, Edwards said: “Not at the moment, all quiet. I get in January everyone is excited and everyone will want loads of change and stuff going on but it’s not a bad thing it being quiet.
“I’m very happy with the group that we’ve got, we’ve got a very balanced squad with some good players and if there is one or two interested in one or two of our players, I’d probably expect that but at the moment it’s quite quiet.”
With two-and-a-half weeks remaining of the transfer window that could change and Edwards said: “It wouldn’t surprise me, when players are performing well, it’s good recognition for the football club and those individuals.
“We’ve got a group of players who are really happy to be here and are motivated to be here as well, and at the moment it’s very, very quiet, but a lot can happen in January and what are we, still not even halfway through the month, but it’s all quiet at the moment.”
But the manager confirmed that, should the situation change before the end of January, Luton will be prepared.
“We’ll have plans, we’ll have regular recruitment meetings and we’re always looking at areas that we think we need to look for, maybe to try and improve.
“If we think right, there’s a risk of losing somebody, we’ll be ready to act as well accordingly, so we’re in good shape should we need to act or change, and at the moment, I’m really happy with the balance of the group and what the squad have given us at the moment, they’ve given us absolutely everything.”

Our great leader Gary Sweet mentioned that Southampton snake Judas Jones would have to pay more if he raids our players. Why can’t we have in our players contracts that they can’t leave mid-season?
