Luke Freeman has left Luton Town after reaching an agreement to be released from his contract.

The 31-year-old midfielder was signed by Nathan Jones as a free agent last summer and played a big role in the first half of the 2022/23 season, but he suffered groin issues that he called a “cocktail of injuries” that required surgery in January, his fourth time under the surgeon’s knife.

Freeman returned in April and made six appearances, but but didn’t feature in the Championship play-off matches that saw Town secure promotion to the Premier League.

He wasn’t named in Rob Edwards top-flight squad and now departs after 26 appearances for the Hatters, scoring twice.

In a statement on their website, Luton said: “We would like to thank Luke for his efforts last season and wish him all the best for his future career.”
