Callum McManaman and Jacob Butterfield have been released by Luton, but Luke Berry, Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee, Kazenga LuaLua and Glen Rea have all been offered new deals, the club has confirmed..
All seven players were out of contract but agreed to stay and play for the remainder of the extended season, due to the Coronavirus shutdown of football.
Butterfield and McManaman arrived last summer as free agents, but the former did not feature after the restart, while FA Cup winner McManaman scored a crucial late equaliser in the first game against Preston, one of three late goals he scored after coming off the bench.
Manager Nathan Jones said: “Jacob and Callum have both been consummate professionals and I can only thank them for that.
“Although they obviously played most of their football for the club before I came in, both made important contributions after the restart and were fantastic to have around the group, pushing and encouraging those that were starting.
“They were a big part of the team being able to achieve what we did, because the environment was first-class. Both are great lads and they were part of something really memorable. I want to thank them and wish them well for the future.”
After the announcement, McManaman posted a video of his goals for the club and wrote [sic]: ‘some great memorys and a great achievemnt from everyone to stay up when everybody wrote us off 😉 🙌
All the best luton proper club’.
The club has also confirmed that players will return to return to pre-season training at The Brache on Monday August 10th, ahead of the start of next season on the weekend of September 12.
