‘Hopefully it won’t be the last we see of them’ says Jones as loan stars return to Chelsea, Spurs and Aston Villa

Luton boss Nathan Jones appears to have left the door open for the return of Izzy Brown, Cameron Carter-Vickers and James Bree after the loan players all returned to their parent clubs.

Defenders Carter-Vickers (Tottenham) and Bree (Aston Villa) played a big part in Town’s Great Escape bid that ultimately saw them achieve a final day Championship survival last Wednesday, with a 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Bree made 42 appearances and despite a mixed campaign up until football’s shutdown in March, due to Coronavirus, he returned for the restart a vastly improved player, having admitted he’d worked hard during the three-month lay-off

Carter-Vickers only arrived in January, but became an ever-present in the backline for the final nine games of the season, and arguably one of Luton’s best players, helping the side to three clean sheets as part of their lifesaving 16-point haul.

Brown (Chelsea) arrived last summer and at one stage in the season, despite injuries, ranked top in the Championship for the most chances created per minute played. An Achilles injury ultimately ended in his season with give games to go.

Jones said: “With the loans, both James and Cameron contributed massively in my time in charge.

“They were magnificent in the final few games, but had been key figures since they signed.

“They played a lot of games, and they were key to survival. Both bought into everything we did and were really good around the place. We were delighted to have them.

“Izzy was the same. His impact was obviously far greater before I came in, but he contributed to the win at Swansea with the assist for the goal and it was a shame he got injured against Reading.

“Even after that, he was always around the changing room showing what a team player he is, and I’d like to thank all of the loan players for their commitment to the club at such a crucial time. Hopefully it won’t be the last we see of them.”

Town’s fourth remaining loan player, Eunan O’Kane, will carry on with his rehabilitation from injury with the Hatters as his loan arrangement from Leeds United continues for the 2020-21 season.
