‘Innocuous’ injury to keep defender out for weeks as Luton monitor other concern

Gabriel Osho will be out of action for a few weeks, boss Rob Edwards has revealed, while Luton are monitoring Alfie Doughty’s availability for the Rotherham trip following his head injury at the weekend.

Both players have been integral to the team in recent months, with Osho marking his resurgent form with a goal against arch-rivals Watford at the start of the month.

The centre half played in the following stalemate against Millwall but was then missing for Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Blackpool.

Boss Edwards said of Osho: “Unfortunately, he’s going to be missing for a few weeks now, Gabe. He just rocked his knee the day before the (Blackpool) game.

“He was fine on the training, it was a really innocuous one, but it’s going to be missing for a few weeks now, unfortunately. We don’t know exactly on the timeframe, but we’ll see.”

Doughty was withdrawn late on against Blackpool and though he’s trained with Town today, the club are monitoring whether he’ll be available to play at the New York Stadium on Saturday.

Edwards said: “He’s OK. We are monitoring a cut really. He had a bit of a cut on the back of his head so we are monitoring that and that healing.

“He’s been out there (training pitch) and done some work with us today and will push him a little bit more tomorrow and see where he’s at.”

Asked if he could feature against Rotherham, Edwards said: “We are hoping so the train today so we are certainly hoping so.”

Town are targeting the Middlesbrough game for when midfielder Jordan Clark may be fit and available as they continue to play it safe with a calf issue.

Edwards said: “He’s getting there very well. He’s doing training and start of the sessions. We are monitoring and managing his load. We don’t want to push it too hard. We’ve got to get the right balance between pushing him hard and not too hard. He won’t be right for this game coming up, but Reading and maybe Middlesbrough is more realistic, but he’s in a good place at the moment.

“It’s just been a really difficult one to manage to be honest. We felt he was good. He felt he was good. But when he came back it just wasn’t quite ready, so we’ve got to make sure this time that he stays back when he does come back with us.”
