Linus Udofia says he is concerned that his British title eliminator against Kieron Conway may not happen again, but has his sights on the “incentives” that victory would bring.
The Luton middleweight was due to fight the Northampton puncher (19-3-1) in May, but his rival pulled out with an injury.
The 12-round bout has been rescheduled for October 7 on the undercard of Leigh Wood’s and Josh Warrington’s clash for the WBA world featherweight championship at Sheffield Arena.
“Is he going to show up. Is he going to pull out again? There’s a few dates that he’s not shown up for so there’s always that in the back of your mind,” Udofia told Boxing Social.
“I’m getting ready for it like I’ve got ready for every single one. I’m a consummate professional and I’m going to stay that way. I’m going to be ready on October 7.”
Udofia suffered the only defeat of his 18-fight career last year, losing in the British middleweight title showdown against Denzel Bentley and has since rebounded with a six-round win against Robbie Chapman in March.
But after the Conway clash was cancelled in spring, the 30-year-old is hoping to finally get back in the ring, so he can push on with his career.
“It means more to me in the sense of how big the fight is, the platform it’s on and what will happen after. This fight could push you on. You get a WBA ranking becoming an international champion, so there’s a lot of incentives for this fight,” he said.
