Graeme Jones has made an assurance that Luton will improve so he doesn’t get a losing feeling like he suffered at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The Hatters were 3-0 down by the 28th minute after goals from Ebere Eze and a brace from Nakhi Wells and it could have been worse, but the former hit the woodwork twice.
But Town rallied and after getting fortunate for Harry Cornick’s goal before half time, James Collins struck soon after the restart on his 100th appearance.
Yet, Luton couldn’t force an equaliser and despite the improved performance for the best part of an hour, Jones said: “There’s no getting away from it, we lost the game, so today we’re losers, and that feeling I don’t like.
“There’s a way to lose, I didn’t like how we lost the first 30 minutes, so we need to improve, and I can assure you we will.”
Jones kept his cards close to his chest on how he helped nullify Rangers’ threat, but pointed to a tactical change and said: “I think the key for me was the reaction of the boys.
“The reaction of the boys was just exceptional, but we can’t be naive, we can’t come to Championship clubs and start a game that way, that’s the learning curve.”
Conceding three goals in the first half an hour also saw a few Town fans leave early from the Kiyan Prince Stadium, but those majority that stayed made a racket as their team tried to rescue the contest.
Jones said: “The fans, you know my feelings about them, but I thank them again for that as that is difficult. So many turned out here, but they’ve got to trust us.
“If they’d have stayed in the stadium, they would have seen a turnaround, unfortunately we couldn’t quite get that last goal, but we’re in this together.
“I keep saying that. It disappoints me when I hear people leave. No matter what happens, we’re going to stand firm, we’re going to be honest, we’re going to face things together, as a group and the vast majority did that today.
“So, the players felt it and I certainly felt it.”
