Nathan Jones says Simon Sluga is finally settled at Luton and that’s why he’s showing his best form that convinced the club to make the goalkeeper their record signing last summer.
The Croatian international had a well-documented tough start to life in England, with a gaffe on his debut against Middlesbrough and a series of them that eventually saw him dropped in October.
Sluga was restored to the side on Boxing Day and has grown into his since. He made a world-class save against Wigan in Town’s final game before the three-month Coronavirus suspension and he’s picked up where he left off since the restart.
A double save at Leeds on Tuesday helped earn a point, while one save in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Swansea, saw Sluga change direction in mid-air to keep out a Ben Cabango close ranger header.
“That’s his job, said manager Jones, adding: “We paid a lot of money from him to do that and he is a Croatian international.
“When he first came into the club, it takes time. I’ve been a foreigner, playing in a foreign country, and there are a lot of barriers. Language, the dressing room, the culture, everything is different, so sometimes it takes a bit of time.
“Big clubs have the luxury of when they buy foreign players of bringing them in, integrating them, they have player liaisons, interpreters and all those types of things, but we haven’t got that here.
It was always going to be a transitional period for him, but, hopefully, he’s now settled and is very comfortable in the environment and his surroundings, and we’re going to see the best of him.”
