Tom Krauß has returned to his parent club, Mainz, and his season-long loan at Luton has been terminated at the midfielder’s request due to personal reasons.
Reports emerged yesterday that the 23-year-old was in line to move to Bundesliga club Bochum for the remainder of the season and the switch was today confirmed.
That came after a statement from the Hatters, which said: “Tom asked to be allowed to return to home for personal reasons and the Hatters have helped to facilitate that, with a view to him pursuing a further loan in German football. We thank Tom for his efforts this season and wish him all the best for the future.”
Krauß initially joined the Hatters on loan from the Bundesliga club in August, near the close of the summer transfer window. He arrived with an ankle injury sustained at Mainz and made his first appearance for Luton in September in the 2-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday.
He appeared to have an instant rapport with Hatters fans and said after the match how happy he was to be at “crazy club” Luton.
Krauß made 23 appearances for Town, scoring two goals including a rocket last week at Oxford, and providing four assists.
Writing on his instagram account, the German said: “Thank you & Goodbye @lutontown. Due to family reasons, I’ve made the difficult decision to head back home. I want to thank the fans for their amazing support. I’m also grateful to @lutontown for understanding my situation and allowing me to return to Germany. I will always carry the memories of this wonderful club with me. Thank you, Luton! Until we meet again!”
