Graeme Jones has hailed the leadership qualities of Glen Rea in helping to add some steel to Luton’s midfield.
The defensive minded ace returned to the side at the start of the year after 13 months out with a knee injury and put in arguably his best performance on Wednesday as Town beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.
It not only lifted Luton off the foot of the Championship table but raised hopes that they can beat the drop.
The Hatters travel to Middlesbrough today, looking to end a horrendous losing run of 11 straight league defeats on the road.
Having secured only their second clean sheet of the campaign against the Owls, asked how influential Rea’s been for the Hatters, boss Jones said: “He’s been excellent. He’s someone that epitomises the club. He’s resolute, he’s a leader, he wants to learn and he’s a leader who wants to take responsibility.
“He put it all out there (against Sheffield Wednesday) and I’m very, very pleased with his performance.”
Striker Danny Hylton made his long-awaited return to action in midweek, having missed 11 months with a knee injury, and he hailed the talents of Rea.
He said: “You know Glen, he’s a good player on the ball but he’s also got the other side. He’s nasty, he’ll put his head in, his foot in and he’s a great player to have when you need a bit of fight and we’re in the situation we find ourselves in, he’s a great player to have.
“That’s not taking anything away from his football ability because he can get the ball down and play as well, but he’s got that nasty side to him as well.”
