Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has his sights set on making the leap into the Leicester City side next term, but has hailed the “fantastic” Hatters and their fans for his “breakthrough season.”

The midfielder scored on his final appearance of a stellar season-long loan spell with Luton, and though Town went on to lose 3-1 at Queens Park Rangers, the 22-year-old said the campaign and been even better than he’d hoped.

The Hatters finish 12th in the Championship and with 40 appearances to his name, three goals and the joint highest number of assists (seven), Dewsbury-Hall was the standout star.

“(I’ve got) some absolutely fantastic memories here at Luton. It’s been by far my best footballing year in my career so far,” he said.

“It’ll be a year I look back on for the rest of my career as my breakthrough season.

“It’s disappointing to finish on a loss but I’m so proud of the lads and this football club. For 46 games, grafting week in, week out in a really tough year, and to finish in the top half of the Championship. I know not many would’ve said that at the start of the season, but it’s just a credit to everyone and I’m so proud to be part of that this season and I’ll cherish that for the rest of my life.

“We’ll look back on this as a fantastically positive season and we’ll see if next season can be even better.”

Even without fans allowed to watch all but two games this term, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dewsbury-Hall played his way into Hatters hearts and he thanked Luton supporters in a personal post on Twitter last night.

Speaking after the game at QPR, he said: “The only downside in this loan is that I’ve not been able to experience a full Kenilworth Road and the fans in full voice. That’s the only thing that I’ll be upset about, coming away from this loan move.

“I’m just happy that they’ve been able to watch online and I’ve been able to show the fans what I can do, because that was my aim coming here.

“They’re a fantastic fanbase. The support I’ve been receiving over social media has been overwhelming, so I can only thank everyone.

“I’ll take so many happy memories. It’s been such a great, productive year. I’ve got not one bad word to say about Luton. They’re a fantastic club and I’m just so happy I made the decision to come here at the start of the season because it’s been everything I thought it would be and more.

“It’s a credit to the club. Thank you.”

Though Nathan Jones has said he’ll try and way possible to get the midfielder back for a second spell on loan next season, Dewsbury-Hall will return to Leicester to train with the first-team squad for the remainder of the Premier League season, with the Foxes also booked in for an FA Cup final clash with Chelsea.

City boss Brendan Rodgers has said he’s keen to run the rule over the young prospect and, asked about his ambitions for next season, the playmaker said: “Of course, as a Leicester player, my goal is to break into the first team and secure a place there. I believe in my ability and I believe that I can do that.

“Obviously, you never know what’s going to happen in football, but I know I’m going to give it my best shot at the start of pre-season to break into that team and we’ll see what happens from there.

“If that’s not the case, then I’ll have to look at other options that I might have to go down. For me, it’s just trying to progress and be the best version of myself, going into the next couple of seasons because it’s been a fantastic season now and I don’t want that to stall.

“I want that to keep getting better and better.”
