Luton conceded three goals in a disastrously short spell for the second week running with Kevin Stewart bagging a brace, as they capitulated late on in a match that didn’t deserve three goals, let alone Hull.

Seven days previously at Queens Park Ranger it had been the first 28 minutes that did for them. Here it was the last 27.

And, while, back on home soil, they were far better to begin with, controlling the possession, they never looked like scoring – and that’s a worry, of which there were a few.

While the final nail in the coffin came courtesy of a Dan Potts slapstick routine, the jig was well and truly up once Stewart broke the deadest of deadlocks, just after the hour mark. The former Liverpool man battered a volley in off the turf and Luton had no answer.

In fact, Town hadn’t even managed a shot on target by that point. But when James Bree’s header pin-balled off Tigers in the box, eventually landing in the grasp of goalkeeper George Long, it was clear the luck was not with Luton.

But there was still no excuse for the capitulation that followed.

Kamil Grosicki smashed a second that was too hot to handle for Simon Sluga in the 87th minute and the Polish international could’ve had a hat-trick. Before he’d scored, he somehow rolled the ball wide from six yards when clean through and then should’ve converted in the final minute, though the ball eventually found its way comically over the line.

Grosicki raced through but Sluga got enough on the shot to slow its progress and, as he dived to recover Potts inexplicably blasted the ball at him and then tried to clear the rebound off the line with his head, though the ball was on the deck.

Stewart, who hadn’t scored for four years before his trip to Kenilworth Road, gobbled up the gift for his second. Sluga looked rightfully furious
