Luton Town have apologised to supporters after their Carabao Cup trip to Chelsea forced changes to two League One fixtures.
The Hatters will now visit Stamford Bridge on Thursday, August 27, with the second-round tie kicking off at 7.30pm and being broadcast live on Sky Sports+.
The rearrangement, which The Lutonian said was a possibility following last night’s cup draw, has resulted in changes to both of Luton’s league fixtures immediately afterwards.
Their trip to Mansfield Town will now take place on Sunday, August 30 at 3pm, having originally been scheduled for the previous day.
The home meeting with Stockport County has also been pushed back 24 hours, moving from Tuesday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 2 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Despite the situation being out of their hands, Luton have still apologised to supporters for the short notice, with the club pointing to Premier League broadcasting arrangements as the reason for the disruption.
Chelsea’s opening league fixture against west London rivals Fulham is being played on Monday, August 24, leaving the Blues’ Carabao Cup tie with Luton to be played later in the week.
In a statement, the Hatters said: “We wish to apologise to our supporters for the short notice in the rescheduling for these league fixtures which are a result of Premier League broadcasting scheduling the previous weekend, with Chelsea’s opening league game against Fulham taking place on Monday 24th August.”
The revised schedule means Luton will now play three competitive fixtures in the space of seven days, beginning with their trip to Chelsea on Thursday before travelling to Mansfield on the Sunday and then hosting Stockport on the Wednesday.
The Chelsea tie represents Luton’s first meeting with the Premier League side since their relegation from the top flight, with the Hatters earning their place in the second round of the League Cup with a 3-0 victory at League Two Gillingham.
The club has confirmed that ticket information for the Stamford Bridge trip will be announced in due course, but that supporters who have already purchased tickets for either Mansfield or Stockport but can no longer attend because of the fixture changes can request a full refund from the Ticket Office by phone or email during opening hours.
Tickets showing the original dates will remain valid for both fixtures.
Luton’s revised run of fixtures is therefore:
Thursday, August 27: Chelsea (A), Carabao Cup, 7.30pm
Sunday, August 30: Mansfield Town (A), League One, 3pm
Wednesday, September 2: Stockport County (H), League One, 7.45pm
