Luton duo Harry Cornick and Alfie Doughty are both fit and available for tomorrow night’s televised clash at home to Championship leaders Sheffield United.

Manager Nathan Jones has been without forward Cornick for the last three games, while he’s yet to even field summer signing Doughty after his switch from Stoke.

He said: “The likes of Doughty and Harry Cornick are now right there and available. We’ve sorted the minor issues that they’ve had, so they’re really really close to being back as starters, so we’re in a much better place with that.

“We’ve had a good week. The squad will be slightly different to what it was a week ago and that is a work in progress. Hopefully providing we don’t have anything else, we should have pretty much everyone back in the next week or two.

The news will ease Town’s injury list which has left them without Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu and Fred Onyedinma this season, while Luke Berry returned for the weekend’s win at Swansea.

Jones said: “We have been hurt. When you look at the likes of Harry Cornick, Luke Berry, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, Alfie Doughty and Fred Onyedinma. Henri Lansbury has not really played, some big players there that will add to us.

“We have a strong squad, that’s why we have the depth we have and it wouldn’t be any kind of concern if we had picked up the points we deserve but when we haven’t done that in the first few games, it highlights that a little bit more but we’re in a decent place.

“We know we have some tough games coming up but we’re in a decent place squad-wise and getting people back now which is a real bonus.”

Luton will need all the reinforcements they can get to do battle with a Blades side that sit top of the table so far this term.

Jones believes United are one of the promotion contenders again this season after they missed out on the play-off final last season, just like Luton.

Asked if he expects Sheffield to be tussling at the top, Jones said: “Yeah definitely. The strength of the squad, the club, the stature, the manager’s doing a real good job there. He’s an experienced manager at the level.

“They’ve got good players, good characters and all the ingredients to be a top Championship side.

“They’ve done it. They got promoted from here and had two years in the Premier League. They came down and, after a tough start, with a new manager which sometimes happens, they really finished strongly and were very unfortunate (last season).

“I honestly think, with the greatest of respect to Huddersfield and Forest, because Forest were an excellent team, I felt we were really good in the second leg against Huddersfield and, on the balance of everything, deserved to go through. And I think Sheffield United did as well.

“So there are two real good sides still in the division. It will be a real good encounter tomorrow night and one we’re really looking forward to because we’re under the lights at the Kenny and (in front of) Sky.

“It will be the toughest of games and it is the toughest game at the minute because they’re top of the league, but one we’re going to embrace.”
