Luton Town will continue wearing last term’s 1970s-inspired home shirt in their upcoming Championship campaign in a move that will see the Hatters maintain their first-choice strips for two seasons.
The Hatters returned unveiled a new design last summer for their debut Premier League season, which was a reimagine of kits they’ve previously worn in the 1970s and the 2011/12 season.
The shirt proved to be the most popular in the 16 years that 2020 have been in charge of the club, with demand in excess of supply at times last term.
Now fans who were able to buy one will not have to fork out for a new home shirt as Luton bid to win promotion back to the Premier League.
But the club has announced that a new away kit and third choice strip will unveiled next week ahead of Town’s Championship curtain-raiser with Burnley.
In a statement, the Hatters have said: “The most popular Luton Town shirt of all time will be back for the forthcoming season as we aim to create more memorable moments in 2024/25.
“Our iconic first ever Premier League Umbro home kit is to get an extended life as we can confirm we will continue to wear our orange 1970s-inspired home kit design.
“This will also herald the start of our decision to only change our home shirt every other season, giving supporters the chance to retain shirts for longer and help with consistency of supply.
“All of our kits for our Premier League journey were in huge demand throughout the season but the home design proved to be the best selling and most popular design in the history of 2020’s custodianship of the club.
“With the first match of the Championship season just 10 days away, we would like to reassure supporters that the 2024/25 home shirt will be available to purchase in the club shop as soon as possible.
“We can also reveal that two new change shirts with fresh designs, one with a real retro feel, will be unveiled in the next week, so keep your eyes peeled.”
