Luton Town have signed experienced midfielder Robert Snodgrass on a deal until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old left West Bromwich Albion by mutual consent in January and has played in the Premier League with Norwich City, West Ham, Aston Villa, as well as winning 28 international caps with Scotland between 2011 and 2019.

Snodgrass is eligible to play against Derby in tomorrow’s home Championship clash.

Manager Nathan Jones said: “We’ve brought Snoddy in because of the experience he gives us, the wonderful quality that he has, and it became the right time to do it.

“We’ve been looking for a left footed midfield player for a while and we’ve picked up a few injuries in the midfield area, and so he ticks a lot of boxes.

“He’s got play-off experience, he’s got Premier League experience and he is known to a number of our players and staff, so we know he’s the type of character that we want in here.

“It gives us something different now we are in the final third of the season and he’ll give us a little bit of a push towards the run-in.

“We know the quality he’s got, we know where he’s been, and with the number of injuries we’ve had, it gives us cover in that area because our midfielders have had to do big shifts.

“We’ve had Luke Berry and Jordan Clark out for a spell, and then Allan (Campbell) and Pelly (Ruddock Mpanzu) have had to do massive shifts along with Henri (Lansbury), so the time was right, and I thank the board for doing it.”

The new signing told the club’s website: “It’s good to get things finalised. I had a few options that I wanted to take my time and make sure that I was making my decision based on who was wanting me, and the right club for my traits and my qualities.

“The defining factor was the manager – it was all down to Nathan Jones. He went above and beyond to try and get me in through the door, which is always nice and especially at this stage of my career.

“It’s well-documented that I’ve not played in the last two months, so for him to show how much he wanted me in and be part of what he is building here, that was the crucial factor for me.

“He sat me down and he clearly knows his stuff on you, and in the end he’s bringing you towards a group of lads who are doing really well, through hard work and determination, and that’s exactly what I’ve done throughout my career.

“I’m delighted to be here and I just can’t wait to get in amongst it, be with the lads and hopefully continue on this great run of form, because the momentum is with the boys right now. If I can come in as an experienced head and try to add quality, and help the lads, that’s what I want to do.”
