Jerry Yates has returned to former club Blackpool on a season-long loan from Luton Town.
The 29-year-old striker joined the Hatters from Swansea City on the opening night of the 2025/26 season and scored seven goals in 29 appearances.
Yates spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he scored four league goals despite the off-field problems surrounding the club.
He now returns to Bloomfield Road, where he previously enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career.
Yates initially joined Blackpool in 2020 and scored 23 goals during his first season at the club, helping the Seasiders secure promotion to the Championship in May 2021.
He subsequently scored a further 22 goals across two Championship campaigns before leaving the club in 2023.
The striker then continued to play in the second tier, scoring double figures on loan for Derby County during the 2024/25 campaign before his move to Luton.
Yates is due to make his second debut for Blackpool on Saturday when they host Peterborough United in League One.
The striker told the Tangerines website: “It’s a full circle moment. When I heard of the interest, I was so excited to come back. Blackpool has always held a special place in my heart so I can’t wait to play in tangerine again.
“I’ve always had a close relationship with Simon Sadler so I really appreciate the opportunity he has given me to come back to this great club.”
Blackpool head coach Ian Evatt said: “We are delighted to welcome Jerry back to the Club.
“Everyone knows how loved he is here and the impact he had the last time he played in tangerine but I’m excited to see what he can produce this time around and how he can help us reach our goals this season. I can’t wait to work with him.”
Luton confirmed the move today, wishing Yates well for the remainder of the season.
The loan represents the latest change to Luton’s forward options, with Yates’ exit expected after he was not handed a squad number and new signing Callum Marshall took the number nine that he had last season.
Also today, Ali Al-Hamadi, who spent last season on loan at Luton, joined Sheffield Wednesday, where Yates spent the second half of last term.
The 24-year-old international striker, who played in this summer’s World Cup for Iraq, joins the Owls on a season-long loan from Premier League club Ipswich Town.
