Reece Burke has shared a heartfelt message with Luton Town supporters following confirmation of his move to Charlton Athletic, bringing the curtain down on four years at Kenilworth Road.
The 28-year-old centre-back, who joined the Hatters from Hull City in 2021, took to social media to thank the club, his team-mates and the fans after completing his permanent transfer to The Valley.
“After 4 incredible years my time at Luton Town has come to an end,” Burke wrote. “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at the club – the staff members, my teammates, and the fans, for making this journey so special. From day one, I’ve felt part of a family, and I’ll always be proud to have worn the badge and represented this club.”
Burke became a key figure during Luton’s dramatic rise to the Premier League, playing a pivotal role in the Championship play-off final victory. He came on as a substitute at Wembley after Tom Lockyer’s collapse and he kept striker Viktor Gyökeres quiet, with the Swede now one of the hottest striking prospects in Europe this summer, with Premier League clubs chasing his signature.
“I have had some of the best memories of my career so far that will stay with me forever, making the Premier League been one,” Burke continued. “I’ve also faced my share of challenges, including tough periods, but those moments have only made me stronger and I want to thank the fans for sticking with me.”
Burke’s departure was confirmed this morning after Luton agreed an undisclosed fee with Charlton, where he’ll be reunited with former Town boss Nathan Jones, the man who brought him to Kenilworth Road in 2021.
Burke said: “Luton will always hold a special place in my heart and I wish the club nothing but success in the future. Once a Hatter, always a Hatter 🧡”
