Luton singer songwriter Myles Smith is set to spend an entire day in his hometown later month as part of a special album launch event celebrating the release of his long-awaited debut record.

The BRIT Award-winning artist has announced a “My Luton” experience on June 15, giving fans the chance to follow in his footsteps across a series of locations linked to his life and career before an intimate live performance and album signing later in the day.

The event forms part of Smith’s nationwide acoustic tour and record store signing campaign ahead of the release of ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’, which arrives on June 19.

Smith, who turned 28 this week, has also announced a limited edition Luton vinyl version of his new LP, which features Luton Town Football Club colours of orange and blue. In a promotional video on social media he said: “Luton colours. Luton boy. Luton album. Let’s do it.”

And while fans in other cities will be treated to performances and signings, Luton is receiving a much more personal homecoming experience centred on some of the places that helped shape him.

Writing on his social media accounts, Smith said: “You guys have done so much for me, so I wanted to share album release week with you in the most meaningful way I can.

“I am pulling together a full day album experience across Luton my hometown on Monday 15th June.

“Kicking off with a full takeover of Luton Station where I’m supplying caffeine for your morning commute, fish and chips on your lunch break (on me of course), some football related activity ⚽️, in store signings at HMV and a special pop up performance in the evening.”

Announcing the wider tour on social media a few weeks ago, Smith said: “I wanted to spend some time with you guys at home before I head to the US. I’m a British artist, and making sure I spend time with you guys who built me is so important.

“So I’m excited to announce the ‘My Mess. My Heart. My Life.’ acoustic shows and signings across record stores in the UK! Can’t wait to see you all! It’s super limited to make sure it’s filled with pookies.”

Fans had already known Smith would be appearing at HMV in The Mall for an album signing event. However, the newly released Luton schedule has revealed will culminate in an intimate acoustic performance at the Sugar Loaf pub in New Town.

The pub holds particular significance for the singer. He performed their as a youngster and earlier this year, Smith used the Sugar Loaf as one of the locations in a promotional video announcing ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ to his millions of followers worldwide.

The video also featured him in nearby Cambridge Street, Leagrave Park, Kenilworth Road, Luton and Dunstable Hospital and his former school, Lealands High School, underlining the strong connection he continues to maintain with his hometown.

The June 15 event will take fans on a journey around further locations, giving back to his fellow Lutonians with free coffee at Luton Train Station in the morning, free fish and chips from Mr Chips in New Town, free haircuts at his childhood barbershop First Class Stylists and a football kickabout at Tennyson Road Primary School, before the day culminates in the acoustic performance at the Sugar Loaf.

It is the latest chapter in a remarkable rise for the former Lealands student, whose songs have amassed more than 823 million Spotify streams and who became the first Luton artist to win the BRITs Rising Star award.

Smith’s global breakthrough hit ‘Stargazing’ reached the UK Top Five and became one of 2024’s biggest international successes, while his recent collaboration ‘Drive Safe’ with former One Direction star Niall Horan further expanded his audience.

Despite spending much of the year touring internationally, including as support to his childhood hero Ed Sheeran, Smith often returns to Luton. In March he surprised fans with a pop-up show in the Hat District, drawing hundreds of people into the town centre before visiting schools, the hospital and other locations that played a role in his upbringing.

That live appearance outside the Hat Factory ended with an emotional message to the crowd in which he told fans: “I hope I made you proud.”

Now, just weeks before his landmark debut album lands and he heads to the United States for another major run of shows, Smith is once again putting Luton at the centre of his story.

For local fans, it represents a rare opportunity to experience one of Britain’s fastest-rising music stars in the town where it all began. More details: https://www.mylessmith.co.uk/mylutonevent/
