As I found myself reflecting on the Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday evening, I couldn’t bring myself to be too disappointed.
Of course, no football fan likes to see their team lose 4-0, especially at home, and certainly not in the manner we were well beaten, but I accept we came up against a potentially special team who were outstanding on the night.
The reason why my disappointment was tempered, was the news which Gary Sweet broke in his programme notes, and indeed on Look East prior to the match. That of the agreement between the club and Luton Council that the Section 106 agreement for the new developments has been signed.

This is absolutely huge news, much bigger than any football result could ever be. The last major hurdle to the gateway to our huge bright future is underway and something we should not forget.
The last two weeks have been disappointing on the pitch, there is no getting away from that, but this season was never going to be easy, and whatever eventually comes from it, our long-term existence will always be much more important.
The six-week period for objectors to attempt to get a judicial review is about to begin. It would be naïve to think that Capital and Regional – the long-term major objector – will not make an attempt, and that they won’t leave it as late as possible to push for one, but the light at the end of the tunnel is appearing.
Much like our path back to the Championship, it has been a long road to get this far with the developments, but we are tantalisingly close to the final hurdle being cleared.
Hopefully the next six weeks bring lots of victories and success on the pitch, but the biggest win we can have in that time is the all-clear to a wonderful future for our town and our club.
