Gabriel Osho has penned a new contract with Luton with manager Nathan Jones suggestion he’s ready to challenge for a first-team place after a successful loan spell last season.

The 22-year-old, joined the Hatters initially in November 2020 as a free agent following his departure from Reading and spent last season at Yeovil Town and Rochdale.

But Osho has appeared in every friendly for the Hatters this summer and today, talking of his and right back Peter Kioso’s prospects this term, Jones said: “They have done really well in pre-season, both athletic, physical players that want to defend, that want to do the right thing so sooner or later, they will get opportunities to play in our first-team because that is why we let them go out (on loan).

“They probably weren’t ready a year ago and we had slightly more established players in those positions, like Matty Pearson and Martin Cranie, but we have made the decision to let those go and hoping that others step up because we are not just looking to be good for the next three to four months, we are looking to be good for the next five or six years.

“All these decisions have to be made, not tentatively but boldly, also with the present in mind as well.”

Talking to the club’s website after penning his new deal, Osho said: “I’ve been here almost a year and it feels 100 per cent like home now,” said Gabe after putting pen to paper in the Trophy Room at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.

“I think it was good for me to go out on loan and get the experience I had at Yeovil and Rochdale last year, but now coming back into training and having a full pre-season with the squad and with the manager, I feel really settled and just want to kick on.

“It’s been good experience playing in the pre-season games and I’m really excited to get going in the league now.

“I can’t wait to see the fans inside Kenilworth Road tomorrow. I haven’t really played many games in my career with fans in the stadium, so it’s going to be amazing to see the place packed after what everybody has been through with the pandemic.

“From what I’ve heard, the fans here are incredible and I just can’t wait for us to get the chance to show them what we’ve been working on all pre-season.”
