Peter Kioso has gone on loan to Bolton Wanderers for the rest of the season with boss Nathan Jones saying the 21-year-old “needs testing”.

The full back was signed from National League Hartlepool United in January and made his impressive full debut last month in the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Luton manager Jones said: “We’ve got a young, hungry right back in Peter Kioso that needs testing now.

“He showed in the Man United game that he’s ready to play, I can’t give him that game time at this point, so he needs development, he needs games, he needs testing.

“We’re able to do that with a good club, a good club for him, that’s going to give him that game time.”

Talking about League Two Bolton, Jones said: “It’s a good club he’s going to, it’s a club with pressure, a club with expectation, so it’s a different loan for him.

“He’s done the National League, with Hartlepool, did fantastically well, so there would be no real point sending him back (to that league), in all honesty.

“We wanted to get him a League One, League Two club, that he was tested at and it was more important, the club that he goes to, rather than just the level, as we want him to have a good development, we want him to get tested, we want him to have pressure.

“If he wants to play for Luton, he has to have pressure, we want to win every game, so it was more important the club we chose, and we had a few enquiries to be fair to him, but we’ve chose a club wisely we think.”

Bolton head coach, Ian Evatt, said Kioso, “is a player I have admired for a long time and have chased since the start of pre-season.

“Peter can play a variety of positions, has great pace and power and adds quality to our squad.”

Kioso said: “I’m delighted to sign for the club and I can’t wait to get going and show everyone what I can do.’’

  1. Not the best way forward for Peter. He should be staying with the Town and pushing Bree for the right-back spot. The United game showed he was more than ready.
