Bedfordshire Police are appealing for information following reports of a suspected gunfire in Luton on Sunday evening (17 August).

Officers were called to Flint Close around 8pm after receiving reports of two groups of teenagers involved in a violent fight, some with machetes.

One boy, who was believed to be carrying a firearm, is described as black, between the ages of 14 and 15, and was wearing a black tracksuit. Another boy is understood to have been injured during the fight.

A Section 60 Order was put in place until yesterday morning (Monday) allowing officers to conduct stop and searches of anyone in the Marsh Farm area.

Detective Sergeant Flaminia Romita, from Bedfordshire Police’s Boson team, said: “This incident and the subsequent Section 60 order will have no doubt caused concern to members of the community.

“Carrying firearms is never acceptable and we are urging anyone with information to contact us so we can identify those responsible and anyone who may have been injured that needs medical attention.

“There are currently increased police patrols in the area and officers are engaging with residents and businesses to provide reassurance and listen to any concerns.

“Our Boson team is dedicated to tackling gang-related activity, including firearms offences and we would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately to help us progress our enquiries.”

If anyone witnessed what happened or has any information that could identity anyone who was at the scene, please contact police via 101 or online quoting Operation Gladioli.
