On-loan Luton defender Rhys Norrington-Davies was delighted that Wales coach Ryan Giggs put trust in him to and him his senior international debut in a 1-0 win over Bulgaria last night.
The full back, who has made an excellent start to life at Kenilworth Road after joining for the season from Sheffield United, was one of four changes from the weekend’s draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Jonny Williams struck late on to ensure Wales stayed top of their UEFA Nations League group and speaking afterwards to Sky Sports, Norrington-Davies said: “It was an amazing feeling, Ryan Giggs has put his trust in me and the main thing is we went out and got three points.
“I play five at the back at club football so I knew my responsibilities and I thought we did well in that system tonight.
“We keep on trying to break teams down, we had threatened in the first half and it wasn’t to be but we were relentless. If you keep working you will always get opportunities.
“And it was a superb finish from Jonny, he deserves it.”
Speaking afterwards, Giggs said: “Rhys was outstanding and I thought we deserved the win, it would have been a travesty if we didn’t win.
“We played so well in the first half, it was just that last bit of quality.
“We kept going which is a good trait to have and scoring late goals.
“It’s a really proud moment because that was a young team and, second half it got a bit scrappy.
“They’ll learn so much from that tonight, but I’m proud of them because they kept going and kept trying to play the right way.
“We had a few players missing, a lot of experience and a lot of quality.
“But I said it before the game, it gives a chance for other players to come in and they have.
“I know what they’re capable of, I see it in training and there were some really strong performances tonight.”
