Luton boxer Sam King outpointed Dwain Grant over four rounds on his pro boxing debut and then called on promoter Frank Warren to give him another fight quickly.
Opening up the Queensberry Promotions bill for for Ellis Zorro’s WBO European cruiserweight title win over Luca D’Ortenzi, the 22-year-old middleweight scored two knockdowns in the first round resulting in a score of 40-34.
Having brought 200 travelling fans from Luton to the famous York Hall in London to witness his milestone win, King said of his pro bow: “It’s brilliant. You saw me walking out, everyone’s here to support me. I’ve got a lot of support from Luton, so big-up Luton, and I’m buzzing.”
King, who has a National Championship and seven International titles to his name at amateur level, added: “I’ve worked very hard for this fight and let’s just get this ball rolling. Frank, give me another fight as soon as possible.
“He (Grant) hasn’t been stopped for five years, I know that. I looked at his record. I think he’s got stopped twice.
“He’s a strong fella. He’s hard to get down. Straight away, I set up a few shots, caught him, let him feel my power and put him down, put him down again and I thought I was going to get him out in round one.
Speaking Queensberry’s YouTube channel afterwards about his next move in the pro ranks, King said: “If I can get out this year again, please Frank, and I’ll try to get the stoppage next time.
“Then, at the end of the day, he went into survival mode. He told me in the changing rooms a minute ago when I finished, I hit him so hard he did very well to stay up. He was in there to survive and he did that so fair play to him.”
“It’s irrelevant. I don’t care about the stoppages too much. I just want the wins, I want to learn and at the end of the day, that will suit me a lot better than just knocking him out in round one, because I got the rounds and it was a good peforrmance.”
