Luton are trying to sign former Tottenham midfielder, boss Nathan Jones has suggested, amid reports that the Hatters are in pole position to win his signature.

The Welsh Under-21 international left Spurs in the summer and so is a free agent and one story out of his home country is that he’s about to sign on a free for Town, despite interest from from Cardiff and Premier League Burnley.

That may be because Thorpe trained with Town in the spring and asked about a move for Thorpe, Jones said: “Elliot is someone we know very well. We had him in. That process is a little bit ongoing at the minute. When there’s news, we’ll let you know.

“He’s relatively local to us. But he’s someone that we’ve actually had in before. Spurs allowed us to have a look at him back in April and May, so we do know of him very well and he’s been on our radar for a little while.”
