Luton Town have made Alfie Doughty their first signing of the summer, joining the club from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee, with the 22-year-old midfielder citing as a reason the Hatters’ remarkable rise up the Football League to the Championship play-offs last term.
The Londoner joined the Potters in January last year, playing 16 times for City in all competitions last term before going on loan to Cardiff City, where he played a further nine league matches, his last against Luton.
“I’m very excited to be a Luton player,” Doughty told the club’s website, adding: “It is a fresh start and I want to get started straight away.
“Over the last few years, getting top half the year before and then top six last year, you can tell the team is just getting better and better, and that is definitely one of the reasons why I’m here.”
Doughty started his career as an eight-year-old at Charlton Athletic and made his way through the ranks. He made his first-team debut in 2018 and became a regular under then-manager Lee Bowyer during the 2019/20 Championship season and was voted as Charlton’s Young Player of the Year.
