Danny Hylton is likely to stay at Luton rather than get loaned out as boss Graeme Jones wants to keep the striker close to assess him personally.
The striker has had a full week of training and is back to full fitness, but hasn’t featured in a match since March 23 after injuring his knee and having surgery in the summer.
There have been rumours of interest from Plymouth in the 30-year-old and, in November, Jones had initially thought he might send Hylton on loan as he did with Glen Rea, but he has now all but ruled that out.
“I’m not sure about the loan, because Danny’s (contract is) up in the summer. I would like to assess Danny for us first,” said the Town chief.
“He’s had a good week’s training and I would say he’s now up-to-speed, but he hasn’t played any minutes on a full-sized football pitch.
“So, we’re in the next stage of his progression, the next stage of his rehab and we’ll see where we are maybe next week.”
Rea, who completed a month’s loan at non-league Woking, will travel with Town to Bournemouth for the FA Cup third round clash and could be in with a chance to getting in the squad.
Jones said: “I’m still assessing but Glen’s travelling with the group. Glen’s somebody I like but I wasn’t prepared to gamble him again in Championship fixtures, so he’s somebody I’m considering, definitely.”
It had today been confirmed that Harry Isted’s loan at Wealdstone has been extended for a further month after the goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in six starts for the Stones, winning their December player of the month award.
