Luton Town right-back Reuell Walters has joined League One rivals Blackpool on loan until the end of the season as he looks to gain regular first-team football in the second half of the campaign.
The 21-year-old signed for the Hatters in the summer of 2024 after leaving Arsenal at the end of his contract and made his senior debut on the opening night of the Championship season.
An England Under-20 international, Walters went on to feature 16 times during the 2024/25 campaign, but so far this term he has made six starts and one substitute appearance, with the loan move offering the opportunity for consistent game time at League One level.
Walters’ last League One appearance came on New Year’s Day, but his chances of further involvement would be hampered by the return to fitness of Isaiah Jones and manager Jack Wilshere’s revelation that the former Middlesbrough winger will be his choice as right back.
Walters will now spend the remainder of the season at Bloomfield Road, with Luton hoping the spell in Lancashire helps accelerate his development ahead of a return to Kenilworth Road.
On joining the Seasiders, Walters told the Tangerines’ website: “It’s an amazing feeling to be here. I’ve been given a great opportunity to show what I can do and I’m hoping to show the best version of myself over the coming months. I’m looking forward to meeting the lads and the fans and kicking on.”
Head Coach Ian Evatt said: “Reuell is a young player with a brilliant football upbringing and I’m excited to work with him. He is a quick and versatile defender, who will bring real quality to our backline for the rest of the season. I’m confident he can make a real impact in the next four months as we try and move up the table.”
