Harry Cornick has called on Luton to make Kenilworth Road a fortress in order to steer clear of a Championship relegation battle.
Two defeats on the spin and eight in 14 this term has left Town three places and two points above the drop zone ahead of Saturday’s visit of Nottingham Forest.
Cornick, who has two goals in the last three games, including one in a 3-0 home victory over high-flying Bristol City can be the blueprint for an upturn in fortunes.
“Our home form is picking up again recently, which is good,” he said, adding: “We’ve got to make Kenilworth Road a fortress, really. We’ve got to win our games there and if the fans can get behind us against Forest, I’m sure the we can get the three points.”
Forest sit in tenth place, but will travel to Luton on the back to two straight defeats as well and Cornick described it as “massive game,” adding: “I feel like, at home, we can dominate the game and keep the ball, which is what we’ve been doing recently. I think we showed that against Bristol, that we can beat any team at home.
“I think they are a top six team. I think they’re in the play-offs at the minute, and we beat them 3-0. I believe, at home, we can beat anyone, so we just need to make sure, we make Kenilworth Road a bit of a fortress and pick up a lot of our points there.”
Cornick certainly agrees with manager Graeme Jones’ assessment that it’s getting to the point where promising performances are not good enough for Luton if they end in defeat.
He said: “We need to start picking up some points. I think the performances have been really good and, obviously, we’re getting better as a side and we’re learning, but we need to learn quickly because this league’s ruthless.
“If you keep coming away and saying, ‘we played well, but we’ve got no points,’ before you know it you’re in a relegation battle and you’re scrapping for points at the end. We need to keep putting in the good performances and I believe we’re a better side than a lot of teams in this league, so we’ll put in the good performances and get the points.
“It’s hard to pinpoint an exact thing that’s not going for you. I feel like we’re playing well and making chances, but we’re just conceding a few too many goals at times. I think if we keep playing the way we’re playing; we’re going to start winning games. We need to go on a run, an unbeaten run like last year.”
