Jack Wilshere has not ruled out a second loan move for Emilio Lawrence, while admitting he has some loan targets that he’s hoping to secure sooner rather than later.
The Town boss brought in two loan players in his first transfer window in January and both proved to be excellent choices with Kasey Palmer and Emilio Lawrence impressing.
Wilshere has made it clear he wants to sign the former on a permanent deal and though nothing has been confirmed so far, reports from Hull have suggested a deal has been agreed.
A return to Manchester City for Lawrence is not out of the question, as Wilshere said: “Yeah, there is a chance.
“Ultimately, that would be down to him and Man City. I think he done really well. Sometimes then, players and clubs, the next step is obviously to go up a league.
“However, I made my opinion clear to Emilio that that’s not always necessarily the best step, and spending some more time with us, he knows us, we know him, can actually prepare him higher than he thinks he can.
“So, yeah, we’re working on that one. Again, everyone knows what I think about Emilio and how much he helped us, especially towards the end of the season.
“He grew so much, and I think when you when you have a player who develops that much, in a small amount of time, you want to get him back because you feel like you can make the move better.”
Wilshere added: “I think that is a real benefit for a young player, going out on loan. Because, let’s not forget, when he first came in, he played four games, and he was out the squad for four games.
“So, he’s almost been through that initial period here. Hopefully, no matter where he goes, he’s learnt that and he understands because it’s completely different to under-21 football.
“And I think he’s a really good example of a successful loan having to go through adversity, having to show resilience, having to dig deep, having to come in on his days off.
“And then, hopefully, wherever he goes, he’s learned that already and he can use it. But of course, in the Championship, there’s different demands.”
Wilshere has also revealed he plans to tap into the loan market again this season, saying: “We obviously identified some targets that we feel we can do early and, in my opinion, the earlier we do them the better, so they can get to know us, they can work with us.
“Again, they have to be profiles that can fit into what we want because we work really hard at doing that. And for us to take the next step, we want players that already kind of understand and play in a similar way.
“There will always be a little bit of difference and that’s down to us coaches to help them. So there’s some we’ve identified that we can do earlier.
“This is my now, my second window and my first summer window, but from looking from the outside in over the years, I know that there’s always some that come up later, whether that would be a loan.
“Whether that would be a loan from Arsenal, from Man City, or whatever it is, they see their pre-season as well as an opportunity to try some young players in the first team and see how they get on.
“And then, normally what happens is later towards the end of the window, they get allowed out on loan.
“Hopefully we can get some work done now and get in a position where we’ve got a solid spine and we’ve added a little bit more quality, but also ready if a loan does come up.”
