Out of favour strike duo Lasse Nordås and Jerry Yates are likely to leave Luton this summer, but manager Jack Wilshere has admitted that no exit plans are close yet.
The pair, who spent the second half of last term out on loan deals, have not featured in any of the Hatters pre-season games and after the club splashed out to sign Callum Marshall from West Ham, their opportunities appear even slimmer at Kenilworth Road.
Along with the new signing, Nahki Wells and Devante Cole are the first choice forwards and Wilshere said: “We’ve got three nines. Well, two that were involved last season. We just bought in another one.
“So, yeah, for Lasse, Lasse’s training, he’s working. He’ll probably want to move on for his own career and to get playing again.
“I know he went on loan last season [to Heerenveen] and he played games and when you’re a player that gives you the feeling that you want to come back and if it’s not going to be here, you’re not going to play games here, then you want to move on.
“I’m not sure how close we are to anything, but potentially, yeah [he could leave].
“The same for Yatesy. Again, Yatesy, top guy, who, last season when I first came in, I thought he was a bit unfortunate at times and maybe if one or two of his opportunities would have dropped and gone in, it might have gone different for him
“But he went out in January, played a lot of games and again, he’ll have the same feeling as a player that he wants to continue playing games. That might be difficult here.”
Cole came on in the second half during yesterday’s 1-0 pre-season defeat to Go Ahead Eagles.
The striker who signed from Port Vale in January is still yet to score for the Hatters
“He has to fight for his place,” Wilshere said, adding: “That’s also a little bit down to him as well. He has to have that mentality to want to stay and fight for his place.
“We’ve got free number nines. Nakhi, I thought finished the season really well, and Nakhi grew and, even at his age [35], I think he developed a lot last season and he really understands what we want. We bought Callum, who’s a different type of striker. And yeah, if Devonte is willing to fight for his place, then yeah [it is here].”
