Luton midfielder Glen Rea has joined League One promotion chasers Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old has been a Hatter since 2016, when he was one of manager Nathan Jones’ first signings for the club, having worked with the Welshman at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Though Rea played a big part in Town’s back-to-back promotions, he has only featured 13 times this term, and was not in Saturday’s squad for the 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers.
Rea has made over 200 appearances for Luton, but his departure is expected to free up space in the squad for a new midfield recruit, with the club in for Sheffield United’s Luke Freeman.
But speaking to Latics TV, Rea said: “I’m really happy for the opportunity that I have been given to come to such a big club,” he said.
“In the last couple of days, the move materialised into me being here today and I’m really excited for the challenge and can’t wait to get going.
“I feel like the Club should be in the Championship, and it has been in the Championship and Premier League. It’s a massive Club and when I got the call, I couldn’t say no. Hopefully I can come and do the best I can and help in any way I can.”
