Luton boss Nathan Jones is expected to be announced as Southampton manager tomorrow morning, taking with him his assistant Chris Cohen and coach Alan Sheehan in a reported £2.5million compensation deal, according to Sky Sports.

The three men have been photographed at St Mary’s as the Premier League side take on League One Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup tonight, after Jones spent the day on the south coast thrashing out a deal that will end his second spell at Luton.

The Hatters had given him permission to speak to Southampton today, after last night’s 2-0 defeat at his former club Stoke City, which will be his last game in charge of Luton, where he is the club’s third longest-serving manager.

The Saints sacked their last boss Ralph Hasenhuttl on Monday, with Jones immediately installed as the front-runner to take the hotseat at the top-flight strugglers.

Jones’ move is expected to be officially announced tomorrow, though a “long-term deal” was reported on Sky Sports, so Hatters fans will know that it’s the end of an era which, over two spells in six remarkably successful years has taken Town from mid-table in League Two to the Championship play-offs last term.

Town will have to prepare for Saturday’s Championship visit of Rotherham United without their core coaching staff, while plotting who will be Jones’ replacement.

  2. Its a good move for Luton – I thought NJ had reached his peak for LTFC and run out of ideas – he has no answer to teams that change tactics half way through a game – I wish him well as he will have a lot more stress at Southampton than he ever did at LTFC – his first game will be interesting against Liverpool probably a 5 or 6 Nil result is to be expected! A new manager with new ideas is just what LTFC need to push onwards and upwards to the playoffs

    • Totally agree with that sentiment, a new manager with some fresh ideas may be the thing that will push a very good squad up another level. NJ has done well for Luton and like he said left them in a good situation, so you have to wish him well in his new venture.
