Manager Nathan Jones says Luton are still in the market for another established goalkeeper after buying Matt Macey from Hibernian, for an undisclosed fee.
The 6ft 7ins stopper returns after his 13-game loan spell in 2017 with the Hatters in need of reinforcements after his former Arsenal youth team-mate James Shea suffered a serious knee injury and is expected to be out for a long period.
Town also have Harry Isted who was arguably hard done by after Shea’s injury, with the emergency loan keeper rule meaning temporary signings Jed Steer and Matt Ingram had to play instead of him.
But not wanting to endure the same chopping and changing between the sticks, as was forced upon him at the end of last term, Jones suggested that he’s not finished in terms of signing another stopper.
Jones told the club’s website: “We really wanted to strengthen the goalkeeping department and this year we didn’t want to be in same position as we’ve been in previous years, having to take emergency loans.
“We’ve made the decision to sign two established keepers, along with Harry and Sheasy, but two that are young enough to work with and develop.
“We brought in Kevin Pilkington to strengthen the goalkeeping department, and we wanted to follow that up by signing players to further strengthen it. Matt is part of that.
“He has good experience, but he’s nowhere near his ceiling and one we’re excited to work with again.”
Saw Argyle v Luton fairly recently and a giant keeper kept the score to nil-nil. If that was Macey, if he plays that well for us, he’ll be a good signing.
