Luton Town’s Championship clash with Millwall at Kenilworth Road on Sunday morning has been postponed due to freezing temperatures which are forecast to continue.

Snow fell across the town on Monday and with temperatures rarely rising above zero degrees, the Hatters had called for volunteers to help clear the pitch tomorrow morning (Saturday).

However, following a pitch inspection conducted by an EFL match official on Friday afternoon, the match was postponed.

In his pre-match press conference hours before the decision, manager Rob Edwards said of side’s preparations had been affected by this week’s weather at their training headquarters, The Brache.

“It has been challenging,” he said, adding: “There has been a lot of hard work from a lot of people at the club, ground staff, youth team, members of staff, everyone has been helping to clear snow.

“What has been hard is because the weather has never got hotter, it has never warmed up. If we have cleared an area of space to use, that has then frozen over quite quickly so we haven’t been able to use it the next day.

“There has been a lot of hard work going on and we have been able to get some good work done because you want to be able to train hard, you want to be able to train like the game and as much as possible we have been able to do that.

“There has been one or two trade-offs at times because it has been so, so cold and it hasn’t been able to warm up.”
